Being part of a project from the beginning, makes so much difference. It allowed us to work with the developer, the architect, the general contractor and the various subcontractors throughout the entire build out. This client clearly had ideas of what he wanted his new office space to both look and feel like. The overall aesthetic was mid century modern with a focus on travel; both “been there” and “want to do that” all with a more residential than commercial feel.

The space planning requirements included six personal offices, one conference room and an open entertaining and seating area, which could accommodate both casual and formal presentations. This client was willing to go “outside the box“ which allowed for us to really be creative with the common areas.

One challenge was the clients strong desire to have exposed ceilings. With a towering height of 15 feet and exposed metal ductwork, acoustics can be a nightmare. We met this challenge by creating custom wood “clouds” of varying sizes and styles, which now float above all common areas and in the corner office suite. The LVP flooring was installed on a diagonal for added visual interest and we added durable carpet squares as an overlay to provide the necessary sound dampening along with color, durability and style to the space.

Other unique features of this office space include the oversize quartzite island with waterfall edge and matching backsplash; custom cabinets with built-in appliances and comfortable seating, which is perfect for impromptu meetings. With all this open space, we needed to be aware of privacy in the individual offices. A cost-effective solution was to add frosted decals of varying widths, which provides the desired privacy while continuing to allow natural light to fill the space.

A custom branded metal LED sign greets all who enter and announces that this is not your ordinary office. Oversize images of favorite travel destinations are the focus of the wall decor, while the magnetic United States and world maps let clients mark their past and future adventures. A space this unique deserves custom furnishings, so JRD designed three nesting coffee tables for the lounge area, installed an Artefact metal wall panel and a 9 foot live edge slab of Cottonwood used as a floating shelf over the kitchen area. This allowed the client to display mid century modern glassware, a vintage three finger baseball glove, and several eclectic owl figurines; all acknowledging the owners love of his favorite century, pastime and logo. It was both a thrill and honor to be part of this commercial project and it will remain a fond memory for a very long time.
